Just across the Golden Gate Bridge from San Francisco lies Sausalito. This vibrant and eclectic town stretches from bohemian or upscale houseboat communities, to hillside residences with enviable panoramic views including the San Francisco Bay, Angel Island, and San Francisco. In fact, most of the houses and condos have water views, making this a truly special place.

Sausalito is a world-renowned travelers’ destination, with ferries connecting the quaint and busy downtown to San Francisco. This laid-back community has strong ties to the water, with docks housing sailboats, yachts and kayaking opportunities, as well as nautical themes in many restaurants and bars. Don’t miss out on slightly tucked back local favorites along Caledonia Street.

When looking to hike or bike away from the bustle of downtown, there is no shortage of breathtaking trails to pick from. Sausalito borders the Golden Gate Recreation Area. This includes the Marin Headlands, which is home to historic military fortifications, beaches, a marine mammal center and the location of some of the most iconic images of San Francisco with the Golden Gate Bridge.

Sausalito is home to a year-round Farmers Market. Come enjoy local options of fresh produce, prepared foods and goods every Sunday.

The Sausalito-Marin City School District serves K-8, while Tamalpais High School serves high school students. There are also two private schools, K-12 New Village School and PreK-5 Lycee Francais de San Francisco. Tamalpais High School is the winner of several California Distinguished School Awards.

The marine layer helps protect this area from extremes in weather. When inland is roasting, offshore breezes and fog help cool the area before burning off. Winters are mild and wet.
